Minister’s Announcement for the Opening of the New Exploration Area of Zanzibar
Mr President, Honourable Ministers, People of Zanzibar and potential investors and partners,
It is a great honour and pleasure, that I, as the Minister of Blue Economies and Fisheries responsible for the petroleum activities, in accordance with Section 34 of the Oil and Gas (Upstream) Act, 2016, officially announce the opening of the Zanzibar 1st Licensing Round in the beautiful island of Zanzibar today! From this moment on, The Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar officially invites the world’s Exploration and Production companies to invest in Zanzibar, next Oil & Gas Frontier! Join us to uncover the basin’s true potential in a highly promising region.
The Ministry of Blue Economy and Fisheries would like to congratulate His Excellency, the President of Zanzibar for this revolutionary and landmark achievement. Under his astute leadership, Zanzibar is continuing to be epicentre of the investments which in turn build a strong and resilient economy for the benefit of all Zanzibaris.
I would like to mark this as a very significant milestone and moment in the history of Zanzibar as a fledgling oil & gas nation where we will officially commence the promotion of oil and gas opportunities through our first international licensing round. There are a total of 8 blocks available for potential partners and investors to evaluate; located offshore areas of Zanzibar on the east sides of the Unguja and Pemba Islands, a total area of 31,883 km² to explore.
Finally, I would like to assure the world’s Exploration and Production companies and investors that our doors are wide open and that we are looking forward to your engagement with our official regulator the Zanzibar Petroleum Regulatory Authority (ZPRA) and the Ministry of Blue Economy and Fisheries.
